Here you can see more Quilt Blocks using the "Kansas Dugout Block".
To learn how to make the "Kansas Dugout Block" with the "Cut Down Method" please click on the Blocks link above and then click on the Kansas Dugout link.
These blocks can be used to make any project you choose to make. I use a 1 1/2" acrylic template for most projects like the hotpads or I use a 1 1/4" template for the checkbook cover or the bookmarks. There are more bookmark patterns on the Free Bookmark Patterns page. You can use any size template to make these blocks depending on what you are going to make with the blocks.
If you don't know what size block you need for the project-- you can cut out squares of copy paper and sew them together to see how many you need to get the number of inches you need per row of blocks. For instance 6 squares of 1 1/2" sewn together will measure about 6 1/2". Seam allowance will affect the end measurement. Paper will sew and iron just like fabric. Just be careful not to leave the paper under the iron for any length of time because it is flamable.
